There’s actually no such thing as an online marketing degree, so it’s a bit of a misnomer!

Obviously, many universities and colleges offer degree courses in marketing but there is no degree is specifically devoted to this subject.

And there are two very good reasons for that, which directly affect you if you’re planning a career as an Internet marketer.

The first reason there is no online marketing degree is that the Internet and the habits of its users are always changing, meaning that the curriculum would have to be constantly updated, and by the time you’d graduated, much of what you’d learned would already be obsolete!

And because Internet marketing is such a new industry, it’s constantly changing and evolving in line with the latest trends and behavior patterns of its target group, the Internet community.

An online marketing degree course could never hope to keep pace.

The second reason there isn’t a degree to become a marketer on the Internet is because you wouldn’t need it anyway!

Having a degree is only useful if you’re joining a profession where you need to prove you’re qualified before you can get your foot in the door.

Whereas as a doctor, dentist or lawyer you wouldn’t get far without professional qualifications, as an online marketer no one knows or cares about your background or how much, or how little, you’ve studied.

In this profession, it’s all about results.

If you’re a skilled marketer you’ll make money. In fact, online marketing, like sales of any kind, is one of the fairest professions there is, because your income will be directly related to your skill set.

The better you are at marketing, the more you’ll make.

This means that although a recognized qualification like a degree is not required to be successful, an ongoing education in online marketing is essential.

A degree signifies “I’m finished studying, I’ve qualified, I’ve got the knowledge” but as an online marketer the learning never stops.
